Due to the increased testing criteria announced by the HSE and a significant increase in infections our staff are under significant pressure. We are dealing with as many queries as we can but our phone lines are overwhelmed at present.

Due to the ongoing risk of community transmission we have made changes to how the practice operates and are asking for your help and support to allow us to continue doing our job and continue to offer you the best care possible in these times. The practice door will remain locked and is only accessible by ringing the bell – PLEASE DO NOT ARRIVE TO THE DOOR WITHOUT CALLING AHEAD.

Appointments

Please telephone in the morning and our reception staff will organise for the doctor to call you back.

You will be offered a telephone consultation and sometimes the doctor will change this to a video consultation. If needed we will bring you in for a face 2 face appointment and the doctor will give you instructions regarding this.

Reception staff will ask about the nature of your complaint and this is to best organise the urgency of a return phone call. Please be patient as we are receiving lots of phone calls in the mornings particularly.

Sick notes/Letters/Certificates

Please send emails regarding certs or any paperwork to info@thepalmssurgery.com. This email address is checked Mon-Fri and we aim to reply to any queries within 48 hours. Do not send an email about a clinical problem to this email address please – phone the surgery if you have a medical problem.

We would ask that you avoid phoning the surgery about sick notes/certs or other paperwork especially in the morning as this will free up phonelines and allow us to deal with clinical matters.

Repeat Prescriptions

We would also ask that you use our online form for repeat prescriptions or else download the repeat prescription form and email it to info@thepalmssurgery.com

Please do not ring the surgery about when your script will be ready in the pharmacy. This is something you will need to organise with the Pharmacy and we aim to have the prescription in the pharmacy within 2 working days of receiving the request.

Changes within the Palms surgery

The management and clinical staff have worked hard over last few weeks to change how the practice is set up and to maximise social distancing within the building.

  • Patients should wait in their cars where possible and will then be advised to come in at time of appointment
  • We would ask that all patients wear a mask when coming into the practice and clean their hands on entry with sanitiser provided.
  • Chairs in waiting room are 2 metres apart. This has reduced capacity of waiting room to 25%
  • Patients when in consulting rooms or with nurse will sit as far away as possible. There will be a minimum of physical examination and only where necessary.
  • Doctors and nurses will wear face mask and gloves during patient encounters and a higher level of PPE where this is warranted.

These steps have been taken to reduce the potential risk to our staff and to you the patient whilst allowing us to continue delivering healthcare.
